Websites typically involve an initial consultation with a client, followed by mock layouts that are approved page by page.  Clients are welcomed to be involved as much or as little as they like.  Typically a client provides as much information as possible about their business (through printed literature or interviews) and combine them with graphics or pictures of your place of business (if appropriate).  Clients then approval all pages before they are seen by the public.
